Question

Problems with ethernet on Windows 7 Asus after reinstall?

Jan 4, 2015 3:50AM PST

I did a clean re-install on the Windows 7 of my Asus, but now I am having problems connecting to the internet. I get a message saying 'Windows could not find a driver for your network adapter'. When I go to Device Manager, I see an "!" icon next to Network Controller

I installed the ethernet driver and tried to contact through the Broadband Connection. However, I am getting an Error 651 message. I am using the ethernet cable of my wifi router, and there definitely are no problems with the router since my other devices are able to access the internet

To resolve the Error 651, I have tried the following below but all of them failed:
-netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
-Uncheck the box which says Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6).
-Disconnect all the Ethernet cables and reconnecting
-Internet Connection troubleshooter by searching for Troubleshoot in Start Search, but it said "Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem"

The best way to reinstall Windows is to use the recovery media you made, and then repeat the settings and such you did when the machine was new.

Error 651 most often (for example in: http://www.tp-link.us/article/?faqid=439) is associated with PPPoE. That's a rather uncommon error, since the router already connects with the ISP. Are you sure that is how it should be configured?
