Problems with Disc Reading ? Roxio Easy CD 6 ?

by fell-off-the-truck / May 1, 2004 12:29 PM PDT

I have a CD with a ton of pictures on it and I can not get Roxio Easy CD 6 or windows XP to open it?

I was saving pictures with the Drag to DVD deal on this Roxio Easy CD and now nothing will open this disc?

The Auto Read deal will not even start either?

Please let me know how I can get the Pictures off this disc?

Thank You !!

Try copy a few pictures from the cd to the harddrive then open it there. Give it a try and see what happen.

"I was saving pictures with the Drag to DVD deal on this Roxio Easy CD and now nothing will open this disc?"

What many won't tell you that DirectCD, InCD, FileCD, DLA which are software that turns your CDRW, DVD R/W into what seems like a disk drive is less than 100% reliable.

If you must use such, then you would have a backup copy of said disk.

There are now two areas to discuss with you. 1) How to recover and 2) Alternatives.

1. How to recover.

a. http://www.cdrfaq.org/faq04.html#S4-35
b. Before item-a, another failure is that DirectCD may need to be uninstalled, reinstalled and updated from the Roxio web site.

2. Alternatives.

a. Keep duplicate copies since DirectCD and it's cousins can't deal with all flaws that can happen in this method of CD/DVD recording.

b. Stop using DirectCD. This is what I did years ago and now only help people fix theirs or help them find another way. The reason I stopped using DirectCD (and others) is that I never found it to be 100% reliable. And it showed no warning sign when it was about to lose a disk full.

My method now is to just use the CD or DVD recordable from the main application. I copy the files into a directory on the hard disk, then add new files as I want. If I'm using R/W media, I select the erase button to erase the media, the record it out.

I no longer lose a disk full of files.

Thanks, Bod

I take the disc to my other computer with Roxio Easy 6 and it reads it fine, so it must not be the disc.

Maybe the Roxio Program is bad on this machine? It was working fine until yesterday.

How do you enable AutoPlay in windows XP?

What is the Best Disc burning program out there?

Thanks..

A CD-RW that is formatted using Direct CD can only be read on the computer where it was made. Make a copy of the CD-RW and try to use it in the other computer.

Sounds reasonable to me.

This is the way of PCs. So my advice to uninstall, reinstall and update stands...

"How do you enable AutoPlay in windows XP?"

Read what articles you find by pressing Start, Help and Support. Type in the word AUTOPLAY.

"What is the Best Disc burning program out there?"

That would be K3b which I use in Linux. I've been very happy with its wide range of supported drives and what I can do with it. I don't know if there is a Windows version.
