Problems with computer .

by maustintx / May 21, 2006 6:10 AM PDT

I currently have NVIDIA GeFOrce FX 5500 256mb but i was wonder if an ATI Radeon 9200 128mb is better because that is what i used to have installed, but since i reformated and installed the Geforce with more ram, i have been getting lots of problems. My fps went down, and my computer will freeze for about 20 seconds for no reason, and sometimes it will completely crash. I tried updating drivers. But it hasnt done any good. Any suggestions on what to do and which card is better?

....suggest that the ATI 9200 is more along the speeds of and nVida 5200. The nV 5500 is a similar performance to the 9500, so something is clearly going wrong.

The first thing is not every graphics card and motherboard combination is as compatible as another. When you re-installed your OS, you did re-install all you motherboard drivers BEFORE going further on with things like graphics and sound didn't you?

Many motherboads with VIA/nVidia/SIS chipsets should have their own drivers installed immediately after an OS install, so that all hardware software which follows is handled and installed correctly.

Other than that....try reading more specialised nVidia forums for specific help for you hardware combination. It's rare to be the only one suffering.

Good luck,
