Question

problems with aio 926 printer

by randke / July 1, 2014 7:02 AM PDT

for some time I haven't been able to print anything from the Dell computer, It was hit and miss for a while but now - nothing. always tells me it's not connected - I tell it that it is!! Have tried all the suggestions gleaned from other forums, even uninstalling and then re-installing but nothing has helped. One suggestion from someone was that when windows updates it can then make the printer incompatible. Had computer and printer for 7yrs now so lots of updates in that time. I have windows vista home premium. If I buy a more up-to-date printer (of any make) will that cure the problem? Afraid can't afford new computer so what other options can anyone suggest. would appreciate help. this has been going on for quite a while now and I miss being able to print. thanks.

See if the printer works on anyone's PC.

This looks to be a printer from 2005 or 2006 so it's well past its life span. But as a test, it must work on someone's PC before you mess with your PC. That is, if it prints on other PCs then you could go back to what worked on your PC. Even if that means resetting the PC to it's factory condition.

thanks for the reply Bob. very few people I know now have PCs - it's all iPads, laptops etc., don't know whether they would want my printer installed on their equipment - which presumably they would have to do. If I go back to my computer's factory setting does that mean that all the updates etc., would be wiped out? Can it then be reinstated if that didn't work? Sounds daunting - I do struggle a bit with anything more complicated than e-mails/web browsing/buying things online etc the usual everyday stuff. How do I go back to the original factory settings anyway?

Going back or how?
by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / July 3, 2014 12:42 AM PDT

Varies with each PC. Over the decades I rarely find 2 machines in a row that have the same process. Partly because the owners, better than half the time don't backup their stuff. That is, they drive without a spare tire as well.

So I can't answer this for many reasons but your PC's make, model should have a restore to factory instruction somewhere. That's what we look for to go back.

But given the printer's age and no one to test it, you have to decide if this is cost effective to fix. If you can't fix it and you can't afford to fix it then consider printing at a friend's home. I'm sure folk still have printers even with laptops today.

As Mr. Proffit said, trying the unit with another system should tell the tale. Assuming you have uninstalled and reinstalled, using the manufacturer's software...AND checked the manufacturer's website for updated driver/software, which is normally what most would do, especially with an older OS and printer, the unit may be toast.
