Problems With Accessing The Internet

by MasterOfGouda / January 24, 2006 10:58 AM PST

For the last month or so I havent been able to give internet access to some programs. I've tried shutting off the Windows firewall, I've even had someone who works on Geek Squad come and look at it and he dosen't know whats going on. If anyone wants to help, just ask about it and I'll explain more.

Yes, do share more...

We're always here to help, so go ahead and explain the issue further. Be sure to include if you currently have, or have had in the recent past, any other security software installed/running besides Windows firewall, what programs these are, when it started happening, any errors that come up, etc.

We'll be here.

1 word, 3 painful letters: AOL

Yea. Alright, it started (naturally) around the time that someone using this computer (I live at home and it is a family computer) installed the AOL Security Center. After I saw it, I deleted it as fast as I could but I'm afraid that there could still be some sort of .dll or .reg file restricting connection. The main programs that I cant get to access are Gunbound, Eyechat, and Limewire. This has happened in the past and has been fixed, but I dont know how or where to go to fix it.

I overcame the problem with AOL curbing my access by down loading a different browser and using it. Foxfire did the job for me.

I can access the internet through browsers, It's just my programs that have problems.

I take it you are the "owner" of this computer?

You say that someone in your family installed AOL Security Suite but you uninstalled it as fast as you could.

Seeing as you are trying to use Limewire, it seems that you are not too bothered about security, whereas others in your family are?

I am not sure this thread can go any further with the information you have provided, and I am locking the thread.

Feel free to email me through my profile if you believe I have erred.
