Problems with 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee running HOT

Aug 23, 2008 12:32PM PDT

I'll try and make this short so please bear with me. At 119,000 miles I began having problems with my Jeep running hot and not wanting to shift. I had the transmission replaced, new radiator and water pump. I also had the Oxygen sensor(?) replaced (sorry, I'm far from being a mechanic) and it worked fine up until 175,000 miles. The problem began again and while driving to work in rush hour traffic one day it began running hot and eventually it blew. So, I had a rebuilt engine put in and the rear-end rebuilt. It ran fine for about two weeks. Now, it is running hot and has started not shifting. I've had the radiator, thermostat and water pump checked, with no problems.
This problem is driving me (and various shp mechanics) crazy. I'd appreciate all help.

Thanks in advance.

other than the fact you own a lousy car and should be thankful it lasted this long. Time to buy a new vehicle

Chrysler cars have that problem pretty often...

I think its time for a new car...your going to spend alot of money trying to get problems like that fixed over and over again. Not to mention gas prices. Stay away from American makes right now if you want a car that will last past 200K and give you reliability.
Look at consumer reports, JD and power, car and driver, motor trend to do your research. Honda, toyota, nissan, Hyundai all give you good reliable cars that wont break down so easily and give you cars that have good gas mileage.

I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear, but I have seen too many people around me have problems with their Chrysler(Jeep), Gm and Ford cars breaking down and causing problems.
