Problems w/ Settings on DLP HL-5687W

I've had my tv for almost 23 months. Still enjoy it! Awesome pq. When i first got the set, i didn't do much in way of color settings, but i've learned to love the preprogrammed "movie" setting when watching dvds (finally upgraded to blu-ray Samsung bd-p2550 last Friday)! The problem is the set reverts back to "dynamic" picture mode every 15 minutes or so. Also, none of my color settings seem to keep, nor do the input names that i program (HDMI 1 - TV, etc.) i seem to remember this problem since day one, but now that i've become an HD fanatic, i really like my own settings, but can't seem to keep them. Any ideas?

Sounds like Shop Mode....

In reply to: Problems w/ Settings on DLP HL-5687W

Thanks for your kind words.

It sounds like your television (for whatever reason) went into Shop Mode.

Using the buttons on the TV, push down the MENU button until the screen flashed - should be less than 12 seconds - you may see Dynamic flash on the screen - that's okay. At this point, you are able to put it in settings where they will stay.

If nothing happens, brieftly push the volume UP button first, let it go, and then immdiately push and hold down the MENU button until you see "Dynamic" flash on the screen.

One of those two ways should successfully get your TV out of Shop Mode.

Keep me posted.

HD Tech,

SHOP-MODE was the culprit! This solution solved my over-a-year-old problem! Thank you! I didn't think i would ever get over those default settings. Can I say that I love my tv all over again?!

btw, i've been using my new Samsung blu-ray (bd-p2550) player since last Friday. So far, it has exceeded my expectations. I can't seem to get enough HD via bluray! Pandora is an awesome feature, but I'm not as excited about the Netflix add-on as I was hoping. I've been a Blockbuster customer for quite a while, am now on the 2-week free Netflix trial. While the concept of streaming (HD) movies excites me, the quality seems like it's just not quite there yet. The streaming PQ on SD movies seem to be worse than VHS! Not to mention, the current selection of available movie titles for instant-streaming is not that great. I found an HD title to stream, very unimpressive even though my tv showed it @ 1080. I guess that's what you get when comparing to blu! I plan on giving Netflix a good workout over the next few days. Overall, these additional features, along with my experience w/ Samsung, were the reasons I chose the P2550. I'll likely have questions for you regarding audio as i continue to mess with analog vs digital sound quality over the next few days...
Until then, thank you again!
