Question

Problems upgrading to Win10

Jun 28, 2016 3:19PM PDT

I've got an old Fujitsu desktop pc, an Esprimo P5710 with 2gb ram on Win7 home premium. I'd like to upgrade to Win10 for free (time running out though!). It wouldn't be a disaster if I stayed on Win7, but just thought I may as well take up the offer as it's a free upgrade.
The problem is the Radeon Xpress200 graphics (on-board) adaptor. Using the upgrade icon, it says the graphics card isn't supported for Win10.
I bought a Win10 compatible graphics card (ASUS Radeon HD5450), but when I installed it the CPU and/or graphics card fan just whirred loudly and the pc didn't boot. The card needs 450W power, but the PSU on this system is only about 250W. Probably why the card didn't work!!
I've found some specs for this pc and there is an optional graphics add-on card - Nvidia Geforce FX7300. I could get one of these, but they are probably not win10 compatible either!
Any suggestions? Should I just stick with Win7, or is there a way to get it onto Win10?
I think there is another method to upgrade via the MS website. If this misses out the compatibility check, I could try this, but I wouldn't want to get Win10 on it and then have display problems.
Thanks .. Tony

Being an older machine maybe you should look for a new win 10 machine. Don't throw good money after bad.

I just upgraded my oldest laptop to date to W10. It was a 2006 Dell Inspiron 1GB RAM CoreDuo machine. It has a 120GB SSD so it's not that slow.

Anyhow, try the Nvidia 610 video card next.

But after the install you may have manual steps to complete. Here I'll give you the steps I used to get my Nvidia up to date.

1. I installed Nvidia's Geforce Experience.
2. If that doesn't update then take note of what driver version it was going to get and google that to manually download and install the driver.

Many thanks for that - it's now on win10. I ebay'ed the card which didn't work and bought a Nvidia 610 card. I had to google some instructions to get round the compatibility checker still seeing the onboard card, but could then upgrade to win10. Managed to download the Geforce and the drivers, so looks good. Cheers!
