Problems since I unistalled

Hi, I unistalled Windows ME since I was having problems after removing a trojan, I thought if I unistalled and reinstalled windows it might put everything back to normal, not so, I can't use system restore or create a restore point or create a backup. I have a couple of registry programs, one I paid for and doesnt work called RegRestore, keeps saying cannot create backup, errors not repaired. Internet Explorer 6.0 wont fully load either. Any suggestions?

Yes, SR does fail on a new install.

Microsoft botched SR with an issue that after Sept. 8, 2001 SR just fails without a patch. Microsoft never issued replacement CDs and many companies like Dell didn't either.

Get the patches.

For the IE6.0SP1 issue, are you getting an error similar to "unable to install all components"?

Try this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder and the files you moved.
