Problems recognizing my Tom Tom 700 navigator device

Sep 11, 2010 6:47AM PDT

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 7 installed. I tried to hook up my TomTom 700 using the USB cord that came with it, in order to get new map updates and other information. But when I connected it to my laptop nothing came up on the computer screen. Nothing. It is suppose to ask me "if I want to connect" or something like that. Now, this is one of the first TomToms and it is about 5 or 6 years old but it navigates just fine. I could not reach TomTom help on the phone, so maybe someone knows what I can do. thanks! P.S. My laptop is only a few months old.

"What do I need to connect my TomTom device to my computer?

Every TomTom device comes with a USB cable in the box. Just connect your TomTom GPS device to your computer with the cable. You will need to have TomTom HOME installed on your computer first,"

Your post did not tell us if you followed TomTom's instructions.

I did that

Yes, i did download Tomtome home but it still will not recognize my device. It did the same thing when I put in the disc for the manuel. It only asked me if I wanted to Burn to the disc, not if I wanted to download it. So it is either the Tom Tom or my lap top. Driving me crazy. I'm not that computer savvy, so forgive my laymen's language.

Do any PCs recognize it?
