Resolved Question

Problems linking LG Smart TV with home cinema . .

by BalaamBoy / September 8, 2014 1:10 AM PDT

. . all is working fine, BUT I cannot get the TV's audio signal to route through the home cinema amp and speakers.

it's connected via an HDMI ARC plug, I've selected the TV speaker output to home cinema ARC, and I've selected AUX input in the Harmon Kardon amp. It comes up with a message 'connecting to TV', but never seems to pick up the audio. I've waited 5 minutes for the connection, but to no avail.

Have I done something wrong, or have I been too impatient with the time it takes to find and connect itself?

Any ideas?

You're fine.

ARC is hit and miss which means you have choices to make. Either use the usual optical link or make it a warranty/return issue. Since I know to not count on ARC I go with the usual 5 buck AmazonBasics optical cable. There are some that want to fix ARC. (good luck!)

Thanks Bob, I'll pick up an optical cable today and try it out.

I am right in thinking that this will mean that I can use the home cinema sound from the TV even when the input is from a satellite?

I have linked home cinema to the HDM1 ARC port, and satellite to the HDM2.

Will this work do you think? Especially if I independently link TV audio to home cineman via the optical output?

Best regards

Sure. But keep expectations low.

Thanks Bob, rocking and rolling now (although where I live it was a little more than 5 bucks . . .)
