I have tried everything I can think of to get this Linksys card to install, to no avail. I'm running XP Home, SP 3 on a Dell Inspiron 530. I install drivers from the CD, then insert card. When I power back up I get the CD install program and the found-new-hardware-wizard simultaneously...the CD program says it cannot detect the adapter and the wizard says it found the adapter but that it may not work properly because "a device attached to the system is not functioning." Under device manager, the Linksys card has the dreaded yellow ! and says that drivers must be reinstalled, but it won't install them.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, I have downloaded updated drivers and pointed the driver update utility to the correct folder....I only have the one PCI slot available so can't try a different slot. I have disabled anti-virus and firewall software.
Under device manager, the old Belkin adapter stuff is still listed under network adapters, even though I uninstalled the old adapter when I removed it, but won't let me uninstall from DM- says device may be needed to boot. Under "show hidden devices" there is a whole list of things- not sure if they're important or not so I'll list them:
Belkin 54mbs Wireless USB adapter- Packet Scheduler Miniport
Belkin 54mbs Wireless USB adapter #2- Packet Scheduler Miniport
Intel 82562V-2 10/100 Network Connection
Intel 82562V-2 10/100 Network Connection-Packet Scheduler Miniport
Symantec Network Security Miniport (no longer have Symantec but this one also won't uninstall)
WAN Miniport (IP)
WAN Miniport (IP)- Packet Scheduler Miniport
WAN Miniport (L2TP)
WAN Miniport (PPPOE)
WAN Miniport (PPTP)
It's almost as if the computer is blocking the installation. Is that possible, and if so, what on earth can I try to get this thing to install???
Thanks for any advice.
