Problems Installing & Running Programs (MS) on Vista

Mar 8, 2007 3:47AM PST

Hello,
I got a new pc on Monday pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premiumm it is a HP a1730n.

I am having some problems when i install and try to run certain Microsoft Programs. I have already called MS, who had told me to call HP who has told me to call MS, so I am kind of lost.

Basically what happens is... I install Office 2003, and install all options to run from My Computer. The install goes smoothly with no problems, however then when I click on the icons to run the programs, I get the Windows Installer Pop Up and it runs through the entire process of trying to install and configure my PC to run these programs. It takes anywhere from 60 seconds to 5 minutes each time I try and open a program.

I thought the issue may have been isolated specifically to Office 2003, so I downloaded MS' trial version of Expression which should be specifically tailored to maximize Vista's system... but I continue to get the same error.

Any assitance in resolving this issue would be GREATLY appreciated as I can not work properly having to wait 5 minutes for Word, or Outlook to open all the time.

Thanks so much,
Brian

Compatibility mode

My suggestion - try running the compatibility wizard. It will allow you to run under XP. I have read a number of posts that point to issues between older versions of Office and Vista. I was able to install Office 2002, but Outlook made dozens of copies of the birthday field for each contact on my calendar. To make matters worse it won't allow me to delete these recurring events, and has synced them to my pda... don't you think this is irritating!

I can't seem to find this compatibility wizard.

I go into Start > Programs as it says, but no such luck finding it.
