PROBLEMS GETTING VIDEO/AUDIO SIGNAL FROM DVB-T BOX TO HDTV

Oct 28, 2009 7:00PM PDT

I recently purchased a multi-system Sony Bravia KLV 40V400A Full HDTV (LCD Screen Size 40? (102cm), 16:9; TV System M, B/G, D/K, I;
Colour System NTSC 3.58, PAL, SECAM, NTSC 4.43 (AV In), PAL 60 (AV In); Video Signal 480i, 576i, 480p, 576p, 1080i, 720p, 1080p; Display Resolution 1920 x 1080; Video Processing BRAVIA Engine? 2). I assumed that it contained a digital receiver, as nowhere did I see anything saying to the contrary on the specs. However, unless I am in error in operating the set or myself err'd in making the I now find that I am unable to receive any digital signals, and suspect my assumption was itself an error. I will eventually purchase a DVB-SAT box and dish. In the meantime, I have borrowed a non-HD DVB-T digital box from a neighbor. It has a SCART connector to the TV; as the Sony is not equipped for SCART, I purchased a cable with a SCART connector on one end (for DVB box to TV connection) and the 3 RCA connectors on the other (plugged into one of the three video/audio external input ports). My problem now is that when TV and DVB-T box are on and all cables connected, I find that there is no signal getting into the TV. The TV input mode is correctly selected. After much time and trials, I remain unable to discern what the problem may be. Could it be that the HDTV will not accept a non-HD signal? I would be grateful for your assistance.

How can we...

SORRY. THE BOX IS

..a Gran Prix STR-750 TS Digital DVB-T/DVB-S combo. It is currently hooked up to the in-room antennae that came with the box.

question regarding SCART cable
Oct 29, 2009 7:11AM PDT

Is the SCART cable Scart -> R/G/B(?) You might try adjusting the output setting on the DVB-T box as well as the input settings on the Bravia. It's possible the AV input on the Bravia needs a manual selection.

I am really scratching my head though as to why this isn't working (if you've already checked inputs/output settings on the equipment). That said, my knowledge of foreign video systems (esp. SCART connectors) is from a technical inclined friend who has lived most of his life as a french ex-pat Wink.

One more thing. You state you are using an indoor antenna. Is there any chance it simply is not receiving a strong enough signal to send out to the HDTV? Which country are you located in exactly, anyway?

cheers

THE RCA PLUGS

..are for L audio, R audio and Video signals. I've connected them to the appropriate inputs on the back of the TV. I then set the TV input option to the appropriate connectors.

I'm hesitant to think it is the antenna, as I suspect i would have gotten some type of signal...even static. I know that the TV is OK, as I checked the inputs with other devices and all worked well. My understanding is that an HDTV without a built-in digital receiver will be able to play non HD signals...so I should be able to see something. Again, perhaps this is a false assumption on my part.

We live in Austria and I know that nearby neighbors having similar non-HD receivers can pick up many stations just fine using their non-HD TVs.

Try another SCART if possible

I'd use SCART -> R/G/B or at the very least, S-Video to connect to your Bravia. What other outputs are on the back of that DVB box(?) Maybe you could take a photo and upload to, like imagevenue-
