Problems connecting using Ethernet?

by chazmo / December 8, 2004 11:25 PM PST

I use a LAN to connect to my ISP, which then connects me to my DSL. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not sure how it works...

The problem is that I get terribly low speeds, not what I'd expect with a DSL. A friend of mine living in the neighbourhood uses the same method to connect, with the same provider, and experiences far, far better speeds than I do.

I suspected spyware, removed it using Spybot S&D, but the problem still persists.

Thanks.

A few items.

1. Read http://reviews.cnet.com/5208-7583-0.html?forumID=16&threadID=45214&messageID=534468
The firewall did slow it down and later a bum network card was found.

2. Spybot does not find all spyware. So far I've yet to find any one tool or even a collection of tools to nail them all. You can try the usual of Adaware, Spybot, and Cwshredder, but to really be sure, you have to use HIJACKTHIS and find a forum to support you if you don't do your own research.

3. P2P users are often hit with very odd problems and I can't offer them any support.

1.Thank you, I read the board.

2. What exactly is HIJACKTHIS? Is it a spyware remover?

3. I don't use any P2P. I used to have LimeWire, but I uninstalled it.

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
