Problems after Standby-Mode with Acer Travelmate 290

Jan 6, 2005 1:07AM PST

Once I closed my notebook, and then it went to the standby-mode, but the next time I opened it again, I was unable to get out of the standby-mode and unable to shut it down, the notebook wasn`t reacting at all, so I took out the battery to shut it down. When I put the battery back in and switched on the notebook, it started and went to the standby-mode again. I can`t get out of this mode now. The only thing I can do now is shutting it down with pushing the power button for a few seconds. If I switch it on again, it goes to the standby-mode and remains there! Please help me!!! Thanks!

I'm sharing that an user reported this on another machine and it occured after they accepted a DRIVER from WINDOWS UPDATE. System restore to before that update and it works.

Lesson? Don't do that.

Can`t restore

I can`t restore the system because I can`t get access to the system. When I boot up my computer, it goes directly to the standby-mode!

Same problem with 2nd machine

Hi michi,

i have the same problem. I bought my first TM 290 in Summer of 2004 and after 6 Weeks, the machine went to standby and wont boot again... So i changed the TM to another TM 290 at my local dealer, plugged in my Harddisk from the old TM and everything was fine...

Until today. Since 2 hours, the new TM wont boot again....

Did you solve your Problem?

Yes, I solved it!

Hi Fifty!
This Problem is easy to solve!
You have to open the two screws in the middle of the backside of the notebook! Under the cover, there is the RAM! Take out the one RAM, that is more closely to the DVD-drive! Underneath it, there is a jumper "J1"(very small)! Now you have to connect the two areas of the jumper, e.g. with a screwdriver, for a few seconds! Then put the RAM back in and start the notebook! This works as a reset and your notebook should work again!!

cheers fifty!

i had a similar problem with my acer aspire 1693 laptop just 3 days after i got it.

i didn't find this j1 jumper. However i took the ram out to look for it. put them back in again (i think i swapped the two 256Mb modules around) and then it started working again! woohoo!

does seem a little weird though.
