Problem with Yahoo and MSN messengers connecting

by kellySSMT / June 4, 2008 9:00 AM PDT

I have Yahoo and Windows Live messengers installed on my PC, and they worked fine until this morning. When I got up this morning and tried to log on, they would not connect. When I ran the troubleshooter for MSN, it said " Failed to connect to the service. This could be due to improper proxy or firewall settings." It then gave an option to repair it, but when I clicked repair, it was unable to do so. Of note also, I have Norton 360 on my PC, and it says that my spyware virus definitions are out of date; however, I have connected and done the live update at least 5 times (with it showing as downloading and then stating that live update was complete), yet Norton 360 still shows that my definitions are out of date.

I have read other FAQs and posts on here regarding some issues similar to this, but I don't believe they were using the same OP and Norton software, as my settings did not show what theirs did.

Along with Norton 360, I have Windows XP Professional with Yahoo Messenger and Windows Live Messenger 2008 (Build 8.5.1302.1018.)

Can anyone help me with this?

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
