Problem with Windows Update

by niteloner / February 27, 2005 7:03 AM PST

On Sunday, Feb.20,2005, a friend reinstalled Win XP Home on my DELL Dimension 2350.

For some unexplained reason, Win Update's page states that it is searching for the latest Windows update...but then...nothing happens.

I have not been able to download SP2, either, for which I am concerned because my computer is unsafe and unsecure.

Please help me...I need it urgently!! Thanks!!

Joe

No...to answer your question...I have the free version of Sygate Firewall ...but I have it disabled...so I guess that can't be the problem... Thanks for your answers, you all. please..keep those solutions coming... I am really concerned sine i need the computer and I know that it is unsafe right now...!!

even though you have disabled the firewall some of the services would be running at the background so try uninstallling that (of course,if you have the cd)
if you donot have the cd then have that as the last option
try to do windows update in safe mode with networking(if it is cable or dsl always on connection)
you said u reinstalled xp on 20th
was that a repair installation or full installation
also can u remember when was the last time that u did the updates successfully

If your windows update version it's still V4, you'll find several errors/fixes on this Windows Update Troubleshooter page.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
