I'm encountering update issues with many security suites. Microsoft's answer is pretty the same all over. Uninstall the offending, blocking software, install the updates and then try the security software.

vista update fails

I too have this problem. After following the advice of eight e-mails from tech service at Microsoft, I still have no updates. I disabled the offending firewall, disabled all the startup loads, and still, no updates. It seems the only way is to perform a clean boot, and lose all existing hard-drive info..Is this stupid, or am I missing something?

Just one thing.

Years ago I showed that Zone Alarm didn't truly disable. Their firewall was still active even when disabled. Let's look at a Microsoft Article I happen to have open -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950717

They do note "some antivirus software prevents certain system files from being changed." While the article tells us to disable such the problem is deeper in that some suites and application still protect when disabled. This has lead me to change the software titles I use as well as uninstall them on machines that can't update then install it after the update.

It's a shame that these software companies can't shoot straight.

I rarely agree with the "s" word.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
