Resolved Question

problem with win7/ IE9

by kstulp99 / October 20, 2011 3:40 AM PDT

Hi,
New desktop PC. had it approx 3 weeks. HP quad core, 6gb ddr3 ram, 1.5 tb hdd 3.1 ghz proc win 7 home. Had ie 8 installed with comp out of box. I use an internet based email service for work. All of a sudden it started refusing to allow popup windows for my compose message screen to come up.It gave an error message stating that my IE pop up blocker was turned on and blocking the pop up. It was not. I checked. I thought maybe the Norton antivirus extravaganza that came preinstalled was acting up and blocking it. Nope not that either. I have no other anti popup software installed. I went ahead and upgraded to IE 9 hoping that whatever it was was in IE 8 and would go away. Nope. not only will pop ups not occur when I actaully want them to links that open a new web page or a new tab will not work either. if It goes to open a new tab the tab comes up but it stays blank forever. Even if i use the right click menu to request a new tab. If it would automatically open a new window or if i request it in the right click menu nothing at all happens. Ironically the only popups that do come up are error messages...any ideas? BTW this started on my internet based email (at least thats where I first noticed problem) but now its on any web page. My web based email works just fine on other comps.

Other browsers?

Have you tried other browsers? if not, I would suggest that as it would at least get you on the internet again and able to access your email account.

Other browsers are Firefox, Safari, Google's Chrome, Opera, to name just a few.

After that, try some testing. Have a look at my post in the link below for what to try;

That is for IE7, but the method is exactly the same.

Good luck and I hope it helps.
