I am not sure whether this would relate to a video image freezing, but many video playback problems can be tracked back to CoDec problems

CoDec, Compression Decompression. These are video and audio components that video makers use to "Compress" a video file to a manageable size, and then the video player has to use the same component to "Decompress" the video file as it is being played.

Videos can be compressed using many different CoDecs, and you need the correct one for each particular video file.

Goto Google and search for GSpot Codec Information Appliance, a utility that you can download and install, and use to scan individual video files. It will tell you what CoDec that video file needs. Then you need to find a suitable Codec pack, and one of the most popular is the K-Lite codec pack.
