Question

Problem with two access points in same network

Aug 2, 2016 1:47AM PDT

Hi
I connected two access points to my internet router. DHCP of both access points are switched off and router functions as DHCP server too. My problem is that when I plug in the second access point many devices cannot connect to the first access point. They failed to obtain IP. There is no radio channel conflict ,... . Both access points have static IP address in router DHCP. when I disconnect the second access point from router same devices can connect to the other access point and easily get IP. Please advice

It's time to call the maker and the person who sets up your network.

Answer
2 APs

If you got it to work, please post the solution. I'm in the planning stages of setting up something similar and I'm looking for potential issues before I get there. What I've found may or may not help you; heck, I don't even know if this is correct, but here goes:

1. Both APs use the same SSID & password
2. Use different channels (someone suggested channels not be close)
3. DCHP cannot be running on both
4. APs are configured as 'Access point' only not a router
5. An ethernet connection back to the main router for the AP on the same network (subnet)
6. Main router knows about the AP (firewall rules allow traffic to pass etc.)

Has worked and not worked for folk. Here it created trouble so we went back to old school each AP gets a name. Much better as we can know get a report that AP15 is troublesome rather than "it's borken."
