problem with sound on my ln32a330 lcd 32 inch tv and tv channels wont take up entire screen.

Jul 31, 2009 3:06PM PDT

I decided to get cable the other day. If I turn up the sound to volume 10 its very loud.. anything past 20 it sounds like the speakers are gonna get blown out. I turn up dvds usually to about 25-40 volume depending on the dvd.

It may seem like its not a problem, just keep the volume low right? well the problem with that is that even going from volume 1 increment is a HUGE jump and going past 15 or so sounds like the speakers are gonna get blown out.

I tried both the HDMI cable and the cable with the 5 colors *not sure what its called*. I updated the firmware to the latest and still same issue.

Also I put the tv in 16:9 mode because I want the picture to be stretched and take up the full screen but most channels default to having black borders on the sides even in 16:9 mode.

I dont see any options on the cable box to fix these concerns.

ps2gamer123,

I might suggest checking on Page 24 to see if you can make adjustments to the EQ. You might be getting too much bass through the speakers, and perhaps a simple adjustment can help you get the volume you want rather than distortion. Custom will allow you to adjust them, and there are some pre-sets available for you as well.

The cable you're referring to (red, blue, green, red, white) are component cables, and just wanted you to have the term in case you wanted to know.

Many channels are still broadcast in 4:3 standard, and that's the signal the cable company offers. You might check to see if they offer a HD version of the same channel, which may be shown in HD. The settings on the TV should be 16x9 if you want to try some of the cable box picture options, but if the picture isn't broadcast in widescreen format, it will have the bars on there regardless.

Hope that helps, and let me know if you have any other questions.

thanks, turns out the cable box was on the wrong sound setting.

I guess ill just have to live with black bars on the sides, im getting used to it now.

One last question, i just hooked up my computer to my tv and booted it up but i checked the refresh rate on the computer and it was at 75hz. Is it possible i could have damaged the tv? I checked the refresh rate after a few minutes and the computer said 75hz so i quickly changed it to 60hz.

Also when i purchased my tv about a year ago i didnt know that the computer had to be at 60hz so it was at a higher refresh rate for at least a few days.

Im worried i may have caused damage.

ps2gamer123,

Exhale. Happy If the Hz rate was something the television couldn't accept, it would say "Mode Not Supported" and tell you that the signal couldn't be read - and the same would happen if you used a resolution that wasn't supported. I wouldn't break, it just wouldn't accept the signal. I don't know of any setting like that which would cause actual physical damage to the set.
