Question

Problem with Samsung Note4

Sep 2, 2015 1:34AM PDT

Hi there, I have attached a picture of the logo I get from time to time. I used to get this with my Galaxy S2 and thought I'd upgrade and I should be fine, However the same problem occurs with the Note 4. I have sent it for repair under warranty twice and they did not find anything wrong with it. I have also tried a new sim card and even switched carriers. This only occurs randomly, there's no logic to it.

Please help, as I cant afford to have this problem, its losing me business as I cant send or receive emails and phone calls when this logo appears.

Answer
you need to tell what the problem is

The screenshot does not tell what the problem is. You are pointing at something at the top of the screen and without knowing what it is supposed to be, or if it is supposed to be there there is no way to help.

I am pretty sure the support center done the following but you can give it a try too.

try wiping your cache partition

try wiping the cache partition. It will not affect your settings or data.

Press and hold the Power/Lock key, tap Power off, and then tap OK to turn off the tablet.
Press and hold the Power/Lock key and Up Volume key at the same time.
Release the Power/lock key when the Samsung logo appears.
Release the Up Volume keys when the Android image appears.
When the menu appears, press the Down Volume key to select Wipe cache partition.
Press the Power/Lock key.
Once the message, “Cache wipe complete” appears on the screen below the menu, Press the Power/Lock key to select Reboot system now.

I have done that multiple times and still didn't resolve. The main issue is its random. Like I get it at home.sometimes and most.of the times it's fine.

sounds like a cell tower issue
Sep 2, 2015 1:16PM PDT

If it is only random, then it is just a signal issue. Most likely nothing you can do about it and there is nothing wrong with the phone. It happens to everyone who has a mobile phone. It happens to me at times too in some buildings, some roads, even at home where the signal just dont reach at that particular moment for whatever reason.

Apologies

Hi sorry,

I didn't highlight the problem. I pretty much cannot send or receive any texts or calls during the time that logo appears.

no cell service
Sep 2, 2015 1:51AM PDT

it means no cell service at that specific location.

Then either ...
Sep 2, 2015 2:04AM PDT

(1) there really is no cell service at that moment
(2) something is wrong with the phone (can't receive a weak signal while all other phones do, or an intermittent hardware failure).

I can imagine #2 is difficult to reproduce at the service center when it's sent in for repair.

I think it is the phone

When I send it for repair they reply with nothing was found wrong.

It's completely random
Sep 2, 2015 12:41PM PDT

Like it occurs randomly. I'm at home and it's fine and then sometimes I get that issue in the same spot at home. I'm trying to get Samsung to replace but I doubt that's going to happen.

Should've just got an iPhone

Same happened here with Sprint in USA.

It was not the phone. It was my carrier. Switched to another carrier with great coverage where I travel.

I understand

Thanks for replying, I have tried two of the top carriers and they both give me this random error.

Is there any chance I can get Samsung to replace the device?

Thanks

Follow the money.

Who did you buy it from, what is the warranty and does another one work OK?

Here, I swapped with same model phone and same drops and no service. Later we learned our neighbor had same bad service. It was the carrier.

Now there is a subject that some can't tolerate and that is service inside some homes. In some homes there's a metal roof or block wall that interferes. I don't read much above about locations.

More details
Sep 2, 2015 7:34PM PDT

I purchased it from my workplace at the time (Warehouse Stationery) it has the standard 2 year warranty.

During the period the phone was sent to repairer I was using an iPhone 6 with the same carrier and same number and it worked fine.

Useless samsung.

Time to get a refund.

My bet is an exchange won't fix this one. Why? Seen many exchanges and it never changes the service issues.

-> Did you compare what bands the iPhone and this model have? Here I switched to a GSM quad band LTE to give my phone the most chances of connecting. As this area varies with models and we don't have exact models to compare I can't do that for you. Find the radio details for each phone.

why would they replace it
Sep 2, 2015 9:28PM PDT

why would they replace it???? there is nothing wrong with the phone. You are not going to get 100 percent coverage. No matter what phone you get, it is going to happen.
