Problem with PC rebooting during playback with MPC-HC

Jan 24, 2015 12:15AM PST

Hi

I hope someone will be able to help me out with the problem I've been having, I'd really appreciate it.

My windows 7 (Acer Aspire x3990) PC was having problems with installing Windows Updates, it failed to install any updates for 2 months, which caused the PC to reboot itself when it entered sleep mode. I contacted MS about the issue and they sorted out the update problem but not the problem I am hoping someone here can help me with - the first time the PC rebooted itself, was while I was watching a movie on my TV with MPC-HC, while connected to the PC via HDMI, and this has now caused the PC to reboot itself anytime I use MPC-HC while connected to my TV. This does not happen when I use the monitor, which is connected via DVI, I can use MPC without issue.

A little more info about the problem, when it's connected to my TV, I can use MPC, but the PC reboots itself after about 6 minutes of playback. I was able to use Power DVD without issue, but after a few days this also stared rebooting the PC during playback. Again, this does not happen while connected to the monitor. I have tried to update\reinstall the HDMI drivers and update the graphics card driver, reinstall MPC, but this did not help. I tried another HDMI cable, but had the same issues.

Last thing to add, I can use the VLC and Windows Media players while connected to the TV, via HDMI, without issue.

I am not too tech savvy, and I have tried to google for info, but haven't found anything that helps

Thanks in advance!

Will

(NT) Since MPC fails, VLC is good, report this to the MPC authors

I am not sure the problem is with MPC as I am having the same issue with Power DVD, too.

Many players call what are known as CODECs and there are a lot of broken ones out there. Even FLASH could cause a PC to reboot or fault. Until a change in the OS or rather Microsoft occurs this issue will continue. It's been discussed over and over so not much to do but go with what works.

For content that causes PowerDVD to fault I learned to transcode the video encoding before feeding it to PowerDVD.

Yes, we all wish it wasn't so.
