Problem with path name in EXECUTE box and related

Feb 26, 2004 10:27AM PST

Hi,

I am with W2K SP4 french

When entering a folder path name in the EXECUTE box of START, I get the error saying that the folder does not exist. The reason is that there is a "C:\" which get appended in front of the path I entered.

Exemple :
1. In EXECUTE box I type : D:\folder1\subfolder10

2. Error : folder does not exist showing
'C:\"D:\folder1\subfolder10".

This happens with any software have an open specific folder function (such as the download folder of KAZAA Ligth).

It is now 3 months I looked every where I could (environnement variables, set variables, registries) with no luck.

Any idea ?

(PC is checked for virus and trojan and spyware once a week)

Thank you

Sorry. You have Kazaa.

I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors and more. Hopefully someone will see what's wrong, but such works here just fine.

Start, RUN

"D:\folder1\subfolder10" for instance with quotes

I am not understanding your response.

Kazaa is just an exemple which I took as being a known software (what ever is the use of it is an other story). I could have mentionned URL organizer, JV16, Cute FTP and other softwares with an open folder function coded in it.

In any case, if you do not have an answer, thank you for your help and I'll keep looking.

Kazaa and even lite has wrecked a wide damage path. To those who run it, I can't offer any assurance that any fix will work or stick. New exploits and customers that needed OS repairs reinforce that this is just bad software to let on your machine.

The note after my comment offered another method of start, run with quotes and may yield a clue as to what is at issue.

Best of luck finding it, but given only what you've written, the outlook is that the OS is damaged.
