The article [Q318378] describes how to reinstall or repair IE and OE version 6 if you are having problems because of damaged files or missing registration information. After using this procedure, you must again reinstall any updates which were previously installed.

Are you using a firewall? If so what is it? Some recent firewall updates require special settings... If AVG 7 go to the grisoft website and check the free download page for instructions at the bottom of the page. http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

May not help but something to consider... it worked for me.

Hi Glenn30,
My firewall is SYGATE and I have AVG 7,both are up to date.I clicked on the link you suggested,to my knowledge, every things fine, but what do I know.It might be a glitch in my outlook express.Every thing works fine with the exeption that I can't send myself a test message.I do appreciate all the input.
Thanks,
Tom

If you send a test message and it goes out of your outbox but does not come back to your inbox, that sounds more like a mail server problem to me. Are you SURE that other people that you send e-mail are receiving it?

Hi Roddy32,
When I send resumes I get phone calls from companies,so they must reach there destination.I called my provider twice and they have no idea.I know,it seems strange that I can send and receive, but I am unable to send myself a test message.
Thanks,
Tom

Tom, I am unfamiliar with Sygate Firewall. I use ZoneAlarm and needed to disable the "e-mail protection feature" in ZoneAlarm for AVG 7 to work properly. You may want to look at Sygate's setting to determine if it is a like situation.

Best of luck! If you cannot find it, maybe someone else will have ideas. Wink

I reread your post and see you checked my user profile. Not much is completed in the profile but the Email button should be showing. When I test it is there. Let me know if you still do not find it.

Sorry Glenn 30,I see it.but sometimes it's not there.I don't know the answer to that.I know that I can send and receive,I can not send a test message, autocomplete(which is enabled does not work)and why do I get file attachment icons.Glenn 30,when you sent me two messages, they show the file attachment icons, and you know that you did not send me any attachments.
Is there a connection between the test message, autocomplete, and the attachments that don't exist.
Thanks,
Tom

I do not understand it. Checking your profile today you have no "Email Bar". That is a mystery unless you took it off. Wheather you allow other members to contact you by CNet mail is an option that you, the member, set in your profile. This can be changed anytime you wish by goint to "Edit My Profile" and making your email choice. If you are not doing this it must be a quirk in the forum. Interested to know the outcome. My Email Bar is still showing so you should be able to send mail to me. I did receive your last email at 10:29 P.M. last night.

Let me know how it goes.

Oooppsss!
Nov 30, 2004 11:11PM PST

Forgot to mention the attachment icon you receive from me. You are right that I am not sending attachments.

Not really sure what is happening but my suspicions are that my antivirus, AVG Free 7.0, is doing this. It happens to anyone that I send email and I see from the AVG forum that others are having the same problem. My conclusion, and that of others, is the cerfification the email is virus free that is attached to the bottom of email is somehow being picked up by Outlook Express as an attachment. If that is not it... I do not know! Confused

Look to hear from you. If this thread has reached it's limit in number of post, start another by replying to your original post at the top. There is another way but too complicated to explain easily here. Get your CNet mail sorted out and I will explain to you.

That is correct Glenn. It is AVG that does that. I don't use AVG but I do get e-mails from people that use it and that IS what the attachment is. BTW I also to NOT see an e-mail button on Tom's profile.
