by radiant_metal / April 25, 2004 2:13 AM PDT

Address Book in my Outlook Express fails to load. The message is 'Unable to open address book.Outlook Express is incorrectly configured. Please re-install.' Re-installing the outlook from 'add-remove windows component' option does not help. System is XP Prof SR1.
Please help.

Love read-only files too.

I've run into many such messages after people copy back from a CD. Here's a small pile of information for you to pick over... from a newsgroup posting.

Several things can cause that problem.

- These include a corrupted address book.

- An address book marked as being Read Only. For files that were copied to CD, after
copying the file back to the hard disk, you must remove the Read-only attribute that all
CD files automatically get before using the file in your application. Right click the
file in the Windows File Explorer, select Properties and the General tab and uncheck the
Read-Only box.

- Using an address book that was opened on an OE 5.01 or newer system in OE 5.00 or older.
The format of the address book changed at version 5.01. If so, you need to update your
version of OE to at least version 5.01.

- Corrupted or mismatched versions of WAB DLL files.
