There is an issue with XP in that...
1. Microsoft doesn't supply drivers.
2. If you took a Windows Update driver, you may have to find how to remove it.
3. XP and SP2 seems to change the speakers settings and some don't know to be sure to check all the mixer controls.
In closing, that's software. If I need to test the hardware I boot up a KNOPPIX CD and see if that works.

Hello all,
My sound quit working. I have tried many things to correct for this and none seem to work.
When I check in multimedia and sound it shows no audio device hooked up.
I have reinstalled the latest drivers from mobo manufacturer.
I have disabled and re-enabled on board sound.
I inserted original xp disk and ran sfc /scannow.
The only other thing I can think of before doing a re-format re-load is to do a Windows repair with the original XP disk.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
