Question

Problem with Netflix app on LG 42LN575V

Dec 30, 2013 2:33AM PST

Hi. I have a LG 42LN575V TV which works great apart from two things. Whenever I try to use the Netflix app, it loads and then gives me the error message "Unable to connect to Netflix. Please try again or visit: www.netflix.com/tvhelp". It doesn't even get to the page where I sign in. I went to the Netflix help website which it recommends and tried everything on there. It says to disconnect the Netflix app which sometimes works but if i turn the TV off, it happend again and have to disconnect it and sign in every time I use the TV. And that doesn't always work.
I get basically the same thing on the Facebook app but i'm not too bothered about that.
Any way to fix this? Thanks.

Widely reported.

Make this a "I'm going to return this if you don't support me" decision. Why keep it if they don't offer support?

works with ethernet cable

Because I'm really happy with the TV so I'd rather find a way of getting it working than return it. I've found it works when its using my laptop's connection through an ethernet cable but I'd rather not have to do that every time I want to use Netflix.

Answer
Netflix problem fixed (for me)
Jan 5, 2014 12:45AM PST

Hi alex

I have the same TV, and was having exactly that Netflix problem.

The fix which worked for me was to change the network settings for my TV, giving it a Static IP address of it's own, within the range of IP's available, but not an address given out by the router DHCP.

My router, like all routers, has a range of IP addresses available, and normally it allocates these to your connected devices, from the pool it has available.

These are 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.253 for me, but I have reserved the addresses from 192.168.1.201 to 192.168.1.253 for static addresses in my home network.

So, I use one of those, in my case it is

IP Address: 198.168.1.210.

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Gateway: 192.168.1.254 [Router IP address]

To access these settings on your TV, go to

Settings/Network[Globe]/Network Connection......

OK Network Settings......

click Start Connection

You will get a Network Connected message....

then choose [and OK] Other Network List....

you will then get a list if you have more than one connection [Wired and Wireless].....

choose Manual Setup...

here I choose Wired, and I haven't tried any other method, because I can then choose IP Mode Manual Input to input the settings I mentioned earlier [IP/Subnet/Gateway].......

Also, DNS Server for your provider....[also useful for changing where the TV thinks you are, for example getting US Netflix, etc]

You will get all those settings from your Router information, the settings above are mine, for my old Netopia router in Ireland......

Sorry for being so long winded, but this solved Netflix for me, and it streams beautifully now.

Hope this helped, I welcome any questions, and will attempt to answer.
