Problem with MS word 2007 opening its own newly created file

Feb 2, 2007 12:59AM PST

I've been helping a friend of mine with some problems after a recent upgrade from MS Windows Me to XP SP2 and then she installed MS Office 2007. I 've got all of the usual XP driver problems corrected ok. But we still have a problem with word.

You can start word and create and save a new word document with no problem. However, when you try to reopen the same document, word will not reopen. It responds that the file may be corrupt or your anti-virus program may be interfering. I don't think that's the case since I've completely closed Norton. I also don't think there is anything wrong with the newly created file since I can open it with wordpad.

I've tried uninstalling Office 2007 and reinstalling it. No help. Then I tried going to Office update and installing all the detected missing updates. No help there either.

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.
