Problem with LN37B550 LCD Tv

The Tv picture and sound intermitently flash on and off for a few minutes at a time. Sometimes a channel will disappear completely for awhile and then return. I've swapped cable boxes from another TV, and the problem is still there. The power stays on even though the picture and sound flashes on and off. I bought the set in November 2009 and it was manufactured in June 2009. I am aware that there was a recall involving capacitors on some models. However, I've been told by Samsung customer service staff that if there was a capacitor issue, the power would turn on and off too. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this issue?

Problem with LN37B550 LCD Tv

garygersh2,

Is it only happening on the source with the cable/sat box attached? And with which cable is it attached?

I've only observed the issue with the cable box in use. I don't use my VCR/DVD player too often. The set is linked to the bix by HDMI cable. Could this have gone bad? Also, I am aware that Samsung offers a firmware update. Do you think this might cure the problem?

garygersh2,

There is a firmware update for the unit, but it doesn't seem to address the problem you're describing.

Instead it's listed as this:

If customer turns the unit off and back on, he loses his channel (Channel is lost)

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/detail/supportPrdDetail.do?menu=SP00&prd_mdl_cd=LN37B550K1FXZA&prd_mdl_name=LN37B550K1F&prd_ia_sub_class_cd=P

There's no reason not to try it, but I would lean more towards either checking to see if your cable is bad, or if resetting or even updating the cable/sat box is an option. Resetting the cable box can often help several symptoms, and this would be one of them.

Thanks. I've already swapped cable boxes and the issue persists. I'm going to try a different HDMI cable or change to a component video and see what happens.
