Problem with left click on downloads going to a temp folder

Jan 22, 2010 10:09AM PST

I recently upgraded to Internet Explorer 8. On only some, (not all) of the websites I visit to download embroidery designs, I am having a problem when I am left clicking on the file. It used to open up a file download box with the option to open or save and when I clicked on save, would then ask me where I wanted to save it to. That box now comes up and very quickly disappears and I am made to save to a temp folder. When the download is finished, the folder opens up and I have to extract the downloaded files to wherever I want them to go. It makes it a very time-consuming downloading process. Is there any explanation or fix for this as it is driving me mad.
I have a Vista Ultimate SP2 64bit system running on HP laptop.
