Question

Problem with installed Graphics Card

Feb 26, 2015 12:48AM PST

I have recently update to windows 7.
So as you do i installed my Graphics card, a VTX Radeon 5450 HD via the official website and did a update.
After a reboot my current monitor was displaying a blank screen with 'unsupported' across it.
So i switched to my TV to see if that would work, it did, but started to constantly change resolutions while i was using it.
Imagine every 5-10 seconds the screen going blank and a new resolution appearing.
I have attempted a reinstall, while patiently navigating through the changing screen i checked to see if everything was in order and it was showing as installed and properly functional. I then tried another windows update and that was in order.
I have currently uninstalled it and the pc is showing 'standard VGA graphics adapter'. I know the graphics card works with my system as it has been running fine with my windows xp.
If any help to what the problem may be can be given i would be most thankful.

Does it display in SAFE MODE?

Did you set the resolution and refresh manually in SAFE MODE then shut down proper?

Odd.

Nothing's changed in how to set video settings in safe mode. Should be same way as before.

You question may need a redo. Of course we change this before shutdown. That way the next normal boot will try the settings we did in safe mode.
Bob

PS. If safe mode fails, it's a hardware issue.

ok ran in safe mode fine, and the graphics card was showing up as installed. i set the resolution, but there was no setting for refresh apart from default popping up. i shut down and the problem is still there, i am actually dealing with it at the moment. is there a good setting to put it as in safe mode?

Sorry no.

But you can try the displays native resolution and refresh.

What kind of connection are you using,..

hdmi or vga? Sounds like hdmi. If you have vga, then try that instead and set everything up for the hdmi to use. Hdmi monitor is generally 720/1080 at 60Hz.

Go into safe mode

run the new video install program for your version of windows which the card manufacturer supplies

Enter the device manager, remove all video drivers there, reboot.

It should hopefully set up the new driver files correctly on the reboot.
