Problem with HT-C5500 after FW update

by m1scha / November 13, 2011 10:33 PM PST

Hi,
I was informed, there was a new FW available, which I updated online from (i think) 1016.1 to latest 1018.

Now I have the problem that I cannot FF in my mkv files anymore. Some very few few files are possible, but around 90% not. This is very annoying. Does anyone have this problem too?

Is a downgrade possible? I cannot find the 1060.1 version for download.

Greets,
Mischa

Problem with HT-C5500 after FW update

I have almost the same problem after upgrading to 1019.0 (Greece). In some of my video files (MKV and AVI), you cannot go to a certain time point, or FF and REW them! My problem is restricted to few files only, but is certainly annoying. I asked the local service and they said that downgrading is imposible. Also, the latest MKV files I've downloaded, cannot playback. I noticed that in their filename, they include the word "mhd" (microHD). Probably the player is incompatible with these files.

I think that the 3 .MKV files that cannot playback at all, have in common that: "Muxing mode : Header stripping" (info from MediaInfo application). Is this possible to be the problem?

still no solution

Hi,
I missed that there was some reaction to my post. Sorry for the late answer.

Before the Update I was able to play 8 out of 10 mkv files that I have. For some the screen turns black with no playback. This was the reason I accepted the upgrade. I was hoping for some improvement. I had hopes, because my TV is able to play almost all mkv files I have. Its an ue37c6700. Only Problem with this one is, that it downmixes all audio to 2.0 stereo, so I have no surround sound.

Therefor I bought the ht-c5500. With the new update I can play the same amout of mkv files via network like before. No change there.

The big problem is FF/REV is not possible in 9 out of 10 files, which was possible before, and still is with my TV.
In MKV files FF/REV is done via the right/left keys on the remote.

Hope this gets clear. I am pretty lost with this, because I contacted Samsung Germany 8 times since the 11.11. via phone and three times via email. The are not able to get me a recall from somebody that has some knowledge of this device. The regular call center agents hardly understand the problem.

Best Regards,
Mischa

Sorry to read this.

The issue is well discussed and it comes down to something very simple. What is in the manual about this feature. So far I haven't found it documented that this feature will work. In spite of that it might or might not.

Some folk use other DLNA servers or re-encode content to fix it. Since it's not a supported feature and that nagging line "if the video does not play, it is not supported" is in many documents you see you don't have much leverage.

Hi, no offense, but I completely diagree. I am not talking about something fancy here. As discribed also in the manual FF/REV is listed under Basic Features. I consider this an elementary function. Also in the manual is stated that MKV playback is possible from DLNA sources. The only restriction is that some MKV files will not be able to be played. This I fully understand, because as we know MKV is a container an can contain all kind of crap.

Additionally when I bought this device, it was capable of this function. Now its not anymore.

Other feature like changing the Audio track or switching between subtitles are not possible with this device, but this maybe more than a basic feature. I can live without that. Not beeing able to FF/REV makes this thing unusable for me.

Mischa

Then why not call it in or?

I know that may inflame you but if what you said is true you call it in or just get a refund since it doesn't do what you read in the manuals.

"n the manual is stated that MKV playback is possible from DLNA sources." But did it specifically call out all features?

And then we are still in trouble as MKV is a CONTAINER. No one would dare write a MKV would play but could write MKV is supported. That's a fine distinction I find many have trouble understanding.

Did you find that passage about "if it doesn't play, it's not supported"?
