Question

Problem with formatting computer, help please!

Apr 19, 2015 4:10PM PDT

Hello i have a problem regarding formatting. I bought a computer a while back and now time has come to start clean. I want to format my computer, but i haven't succeeded quite yet. After wiping my hardrive, i inserted my usb with windows on it, and my PC found the files and windows should work.

The problem is installing the drivers. How do i do it ? It says i need drivers for my hard drive. I downloaded all drivers for my motherboard and they are the correct ones, but the PC doesn't seem to pick them up from my usb ? It says nothing is found, even though i have the files on my usb. Can someone tell me what to do please ?

My computer was self built, but windows is windows 7 ultimate 64-bit, graphics card is AMD radeon HD 6950, hard drive is Western Digital WD Green WD20EARX 2TB , and motherboard is asus M4A87TDEVO.

And btw does it make a difference how i transfer the drivers to the usb ? i mean i dont have the original cd's so i had to download em. Do i need to keep em as .rar or as a folder or just everything seperate ?

~~~Appreciate it alot, whoever helps me!
Windows 7 shouldn't need drivers for your hard drive, only for (some) other devices.
Downloading drivers is fine. It's the usual way to do it. But I've never seen drivers coming in a .rar-file, because .rar files can't be read by Windows. Downloading from the makers site usually gives a .exe or a .zip. The exe file - when run - either installs the driver or expands into a folder. The zip-file should be extracted also. Then point the new hardware wizard to that folder.
Good link to good program. I didn't give it since 'official' drivers for Windows never come in a rar. But some driver sites might do indeed (although you have to wonder why).
But there's not always a setup in such a file. Sometimes the new hardware or add printer wizard just needs to be told the folder and then it searches for the right inf-files to process. It's kind of unstandardized.
Sounds like a non-standard installation
Windows 7 doesn't need you to partition and install anything. It does that from the DVD iso. I'm presuming your USB drive contains the iso (image) so you must boot from that. As for the drivers, you'd download those from the motherboard and graphics card site and they should be executables so don't need to have third party extractors. Get them from ASUS and AMD. Maybe you need to tell more about how you made this USB with Windows on it. That might offer some helpful information.
