Problem with Firefox plugins

Dec 2, 2004 12:34AM PST

I just want to report what for me is a shortcoming of Firefox (with which I am overall very pleased). Fidelity Investments has a way to get a chart showing the price fluctuations of individual stocks. I have no trouble getting the charts when I use IE. But when I use Firefox, and try to open a chart, I get a blank area where the chart should be an icon to click on to search for a plugin. When I click on it, I get a message that no plugin can be located. It is strange to me that Firefox does not allow for the use of such a chart. grandpaw

Not all sites work with Firefox.

For these we use Internet Explorer.

Here's one area that Firefox and Mozilla will NEVER function. Any site with ACTIVEX components.

Again, NEVER!

Hope this clarifies this issue.

Bob, I recall you mentioning that before. But what surprised me is that Firefox doesn't work on something that seems essential to a good browser. I guess all I can do is to report it and if there are other complaints maybe Firefox will add an appropriate plugin. Thanks, grandpaw

Grandpaw, I have a Fidelity account also .I went to (I presume)the same chart page and it worked fine for me. It uses the Java plugin if I am at the same site as you. This chart shows a line graph and balloon tips for price and volume The date changes in the bar above the chart. Are we at the same page?

Well, right now, dlhan, I can't get IE6 to display the chart. It isn't the same kind of chart you describe, but in the past I've had no trouble displaying it in either Firefox or IE6. I have no idea what kind of java, if any, I have, but I am not aware of having done anything concerning java since the time it was working fine. Because of something I read in MajorGeeks, I want to install Sun java, for which I got the CD. Maybe that will help. MajorGeeks said first of all to get rid of MS VM, whatever that is, but I can't find any evidence that I have it on my computer.

So, I'll get back to you after I get Sun java and see if that makes the charts work. I'm kinda thinking that I got the wrong version of XP. I had hoped to get the version that was relatively trouble free.
