Problem with Firefox installation

Oct 6, 2005 3:45PM PDT

Hello Pete, Last evening I reinstalled Panther and all the updates.
My system was working fine. So I thought.
Did not try the internet or Safari
This evening I started up my Mac and clicked on Safari in the dock.
An error came up??There is a problem saving your bookmarks. Safari encounted a problem while saving your bookmarks.? Clicked OK. Same error message came up twice again.
Typed in adelphia.net and brought up the screen.
Next error message??A keychain cannot be found to store Safari.?
Reset to defaults? Clicked yes. Same thing happened when I tried CNET forums. Cannot open any of the forums.
Tried to reset Safari. Nothing happens. Also, Mozill Firefox will not open.
Pete, any suggestions on how to fix this? I would have posted to the Mac forum. Cannot open them to post.

Day Two:

Pete, My email works. The Internet does not. My passwords work fine for my system and Adelphia. I do not have a clue to keychains, except to think that my bookmarks remembered my passwords? Pete, I am not an IT person.
I reinstalled Panther because when going to about this computer, I read System 10.1.0. Not 10.3.9. After reinstalling Panther my system reads 10.3.9 now.
Everything seems to be fine except Safari .I guess that is the key.
I used the disks that came with Panther (4) and installed them again. I remember that on the first install for Panther it was rather quick. Last night, I took longer to reinstall.
I cannot download Mozilla Firefox tonight because nothing works on the internet for me with Safari being hung up on error messages with the keychain and bookmarks. I can download a new copy of Firefox at work tomorrow and copy it to a Zip disk. Same goes for Safari if I knew exactly where to go and download it.
Resetting Safari does not work. Seems that Safari may have be damaged on my system somehow during the download last night.
Thanks for your help and looking forward to it.

Day Three:

Peter, spent about two hours with preferences and restarted my computer using my server settings. V1.0.1 and combo OSV9.2.2 and Mac X.
Switched to firefox. Hope everything will work. All bookmarks are back to Firefox.
That does not solve the screw-up I did with Panther and the install.
However, I plan on going to our new Apple store this coming Monday and to set up an appointment and have those tech personnel set up my computer for OS Tiger.
May cost me a few bucks. Who cares! I know it will be done right this time. Who said a little knowledge is dangerous? I think that Grim sent me something similar: I just know enough to be dangerous.
Who knows, maybe my stumbling will help others.
Maybe a basic primer from you on how to install Mac OS software?
The manuals are so tedious to read over and over. Manuals are wonderful if I could understand them.
