Problem with DVD-RW drive.

Sep 15, 2010 6:42PM PDT

I have a Samsung TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-W162C, been having it for at least 5 years.

recently when i try playing a DVD+RW, it cant at all detect the disc and when the drive is open.theres no contents, when i had previously burn backup files to it.

i also had problem playing files from Dual layer disc when the specs clearly states it is supported.
Previously had no problems reading or writing these files.
I even tried using DVD info & it clearly show it supports these files.
Please help.

thanks

You've answered you're own question, the PC is 5yrs old or the DVD drive is. These drives don't last forever and should be considered done in. Its time to replace and take that as a clue of other possible wear&tear issues on other components as well. It probably was starting to be flaky, but it lasted or did what you wanted, there is no fix, other than replace. You can run some diags. if you wish, but time&effort invested maybe lost in the end.

1. Try the usual. A cd/dvd lens cleaner.
2. Try a new drive.
