Problem with DVD player

Mar 30, 2006 11:46PM PST

Hi, Just got a new player and the problem is that the brightness fades in an out about every three or four seconds and never stops. The movie plays fine in all other ways but this. Any ideas? The movie is new and played only once before and was fine when they played it. It a purchased DVD, new.

Thanks

Are You Doing This?.......
Mar 31, 2006 2:59PM PST

.....running the DVD signal thru another component before it gets to the TV? When it is hooked up directly to the TV does it do this?

Sounds like a copy protection problem that might be activated if you are sending the DVD signal thru a VCR player.

Yes, I am running the DVD player through the the back of the VCR, so I'll try directly through the TV. Also, regarding the previous response, I only have the one DVD, like I mentioned, as this is my first player. As mentioned, this DVD was purchased by a relative who had no problems, and it was only played once on their equipment.

Will follow up after I try the above. Thanks

That's The Problem

Running the commercial DVD thru the VCR and then on to the DVD player is the problem. The VCR picks up that this is a commercial movie DVD with anti-copy protection and messes with the signal as it goes thru the VCR because it thinks you are trying to copy it on the VCR.

There will be a mention of this in the hook up section of the owner's manual.
