I never had this problem with IE5.5 but with IE6, when I try to download an mpeg file, I do not receive the usual prompt asking whether I want to open the file from this location or download the file. The mpeg file begins downloading automatically.
This does not happen with wmv files.
To avoid the problem I have to right click and select "Save Target As." What downloads then is an mpeg2 file. To avoid that, I have to manually add the .mpg file extension after selecting "Save Target As."
In Internet Options >>> Advanced, I have deselected "play videos in web pages." In Internet Options >>> Security >>> Downloads, I have both file and font downloads enabled.
I have also tried changing file associations to ALSow, a non-streaming media player, but the problem persists.
I would really appreciate some help with this problem.
