Problem with audio delay on samsung HT-Z310

Mar 29, 2009 6:31AM PDT

Hi,

I have a samsung home theater system HT-Z310 for 2 months now. Untill a few days I really enjoyed the system, but now discovering a problem.

When I connect, for example, my Mediaplayer to the HT-Z310 via an optical cable and at the same time an hdmi-cable to my TV, a problem arise. The picture and sound on the TV are in sync, but the TV picture and the sound from the HT-Z310 are not.

I already set the AVsync in the samsung setup to zero (0), but still I can't get the sound from the HT-Z310 in sync with the TV sound.
It's not only the problem with this Mediaplayer, I plugged in a few other devices, and they got the same problem.
Also, I did a search on Google, and found a few other who have the same problem as me.

Unfortunately, I can't find a firmware update or FAQ which could solve the problem for me..
Could anyone here help me?

thanks in advance!

Jordy

To clear things up: the Mediaplayer is connected to my HT-Z310 via an optical cable, and at the same time the Mediaplayer is connected via an HDMI-cable to my TV.

jordyjj,

It may be that picture processing is your issue, since the picture seems to be held up by the audio, correct?

The audio is likely being sent while the picture is being processed, causing the delay. Try turning off some of the picture processing by renaming the television HDMI input to "Game" and see if that doesn't help assist with the delay.

Keep me posted.

Thanks for you reply.

My problem is that the audio comes later than the picture. It's not a big delay, but it's really irritating when watching a movie. All the delay options on my Samsung ht-z310 are set to zero. I also yesterday updated the device with the new firmware that came out on Friday, unfortunately it doesn't fix my problem.

I did what you said, but it doesn't help.

My problem would have been solved, if at the option in the Setup menu of the Samsung Ht-z310 under 'AV-Sync', you could not only delay the audio, but also make it come earlier.
Right know you can only set, for example: 10ms, 20ms, 30ms, 40ms, and so on. But my problem would be solved if you could set it like this, for example: -40ms, -30ms, -20ms, -10ms, 0ms, 10ms, 20ms, 30ms, 40ms.

Hope you understand what I mean!

Thanks in advance!

jordyjj,

I understand what you mean, but I'm not sure I have a solution for that. Let me run that by one of our HTIB specialists and see what they might suggest on Monday.

We've tried to replicate the issue at hand, and the only thing we could come up with is that the encoding of the file may need to be adjusted. Unfortunately, there is no way to "speed up the sound"; the only way the unit is programmed is to delay the sound, as picture processing usually usually requies a delay in the audio for some lip-sync applications, and not the other way around.

I wish I had a solution, but I don't.

First of all, thanks for your response.

I must say, that I'm not really satisfied with your answer. I'm really thankfull that you've done so much research for me, but what should I do know?
I use my Samsung HT-Z310 the most for playing sound through the optical input..

After some searching I've done here in Holland, I found out which company repairs the Samsung products in Holland. I called them and they said that I should send the unit to them for a repair. I also told them about this CNET Forum and the help from you and what you have said (HDTech). The guy on the phone said that if they couldn't solve it, they would replace the hardware of the unit by a newer one and looked if that would solve it.
I don't know if this could solve it, but I think I have no other option...

Anyway, I don't think I will ever buy a Samsung home cinema system again if this problem can't be solved. I have payed 260 Euro for this product (344,03 dollars) , and now it looks like I payed that for a product that doesn't even work as it should.

Just one more thing I forgot to say in my previous post:

You say that the encoding of the file needs to be adjusted. Is that a software problem of the unit, or is it a hardware-problem?

If it is a software problem, would a firmware update solve it?

jordyjj,

I was thinking that maybe the file wasn't encoded correctly when it was transferred from the original media. It's a long shot, but might be worth tinkering with.

a big minus

Okey, but why is it than only with this samsung unit, and not on a sony unit?

Also, I received today my samsung unit back from the repair center. I was really suprised, because they didn't done anything about it, but just said it was a settings problem. So they didn't even read the 2-pages letter I had send them, where I described that I already tried that. So a big MINUS for samsung at this point.

I'm also very dissapointed

I'm quite sure this delay is not a defect because I've seen too many people complaining about the same issue. I'm also sure that it is not a matter of encoding/decoding issue because the delay not only happen when playing files, it also happen when using inputs 1 and 2 (I did not try the optical input).
It is really impossible to play the piano with this delay. I've tried all possible configurations without any success. I think this delay is caused by some poor Analogic/Digital converter that is applied on all the audio inputs. Simply anaceptable.
