The machine works, the game does work so rather than risk breaking this working system I'd leave it alone.
Many folk try that Driver Update by microsoft and then the sorry posts and pleas for help begin.

I have a a Toshiba Satellite A665 running W7 Home Prem- 64 bit, recently I have noticed that when I open Free Cell, Hearts, Mahjong Titans, Solitaire, or Spider the cards or tiles do not cascade like they used to. In now appears that the cascade is so fast it is like the game starts with the card/tiles are in place with no visible cascade effect. Is this the result of a tweak by MS? I have clicked on the options tab in each of the games and the Animation tab is grayed out and I cannot change it. Any ideas what to do?

Bob: I know the game works. I just want the cascade to slow down so I can actually see the cards/tiles cascade into position. Even Microsoft can't seem to get that idea their collective heads!!!!
I see no user controls over such speeds other than getting a slower PC.
Machines have sped up over the years and this could be one of those things where a nice high speed machine would show this issue. Microsoft is deaf to fixing cosmetic issues like this.

Bob: I am using the same OS on the machine that came with when I got it almost 5 years ago. This just started about a month or so ago. Up to that time it worked fine. You could se the cards/tiles cascade into place. I'm just wondering if MS did a tweak and didn't notify anyone about it.The only hardware change I made was increasing RAM fro 2 GB to 4 GB but that was four years ago. I have another Toshiba laptop (Satellite M45) running on 32 bit W7 and it does the same thing. Which makes me think MS did something during an update.
Let's say they issued a fix that made something run 10x faster and this is the cosmetic side effect. Again, a fine example of a cosmetic detail Microsoft pushes down the list of things to fix.
Not only that but the company's focus is on 10 and other areas. You can find tomes on the web about what gets Microsoft's attention.

...3 years ago, and have lived happily ever after. It runs in Windows 8.x and 10 too.
Start>control panel>perf info and tools>adjust visual effects>let windows choose.
I now have an active animate tab in the games.
Test.
