Problem w/Canon Elura 70 on playback

I've had the Elura 70 for several years and all of a sudden when I want to playback (in camera) what I just recorded, it shows pixelated mosaic, partially showing the movie, partially showing "stuck" scene etc. I tried putting a different tape in (one that I have viewed previously and knew it was OK) and it did the same thing. In fact, the "stuck" image was from the previous tape that was taken out of the camera! Then I tried playing it in iMovie (from camera), same thing. So it's the camera, not the tape.

Anybody familiar with this? Is it fixable? I have many, many tapes waiting to be downloaded to the computer...

Thanks for your help.
