General discussion

problem still not solved

Sep 30, 2006 5:29AM PDT

i asked for help with a problem i had, got no reply then when i did i said i had already tried it and it didn't work, and then was harrassed by mrmacfixit. After stating my problem wasnt solved, then egging on mrmacfixit, the topic was locked. CNET Mac forum offers mediocre help from a powerhungry moderator who would rather insult people's intelligence than solve an actual problem. Goodbye, CNET.

um... I interpreted your original post a bit differently...
Sep 30, 2006 6:54AM PDT

In your original post, you said the new QT was giving you problems so you asked, "Can someone point me directly to an uninstaller that will uninstall quicktime 7.1.3 and install 6.5.2? i've tried several different ones, but htey all were for 7.0.3 and stuff and they never worked."

No one replied to you because either:
1) no one on these forums was aware of the uninstaller you're looking for,
or,
2) no one could relate to the issue you experienced.
or
3) Both.

I continued to read through your thread. Here is my analogy:

I drive a a car from GM. When I have a problem with that car I ask GM.

You have an application from Apple. When you have a problem with that application, ask Apple. They have a great knowledge-base area with forums much more extensive than this one.

There are many reasons this CNET forum exists and lots of times, forum members - including moderators - provide assistance when they can - but to knock a VOLUNTEER moderator because YOUR answer about another vendor's product did not magically appear is just a bit odd - in my book, anyway.

Have you tried QuickTime 7.1.3? That is the current version. Presuming you are a Windows user, if you go to Start: All Programs: QuickTime... did you try the QuickTime uninstaller that is in that subdirectory? Once you get it uninstalled, you can download QuickTime 6.5.2 for PC at http://www.apple.com/support/quicktime/

But, as with any other application, regardless of manufacturer, expect newer features will not be available because of the older version application.

Have a nice life.

I encountered a similar problem upgrading Quick Time
Sep 30, 2006 6:56AM PDT

on my Windows Machine. The new Quick Time took it upon itself to also install a new version of iTunes. Between the two of them, they wiped out the music and licenses for music I had previously purchased via iTunes.

Fortunately, for me, Windows Media Player recovered the music which iTunes was refusing to do. No muss. No fuss. It just worked.

That happens

There are two versions of QT available on the Apple site for Windows.
QT standalone installer and the QT with iTunes installer.

The default choice is QT with iTunes. QT did not take it upon itself to install a new version of iTunes, you told it to

Glad you recovered though, you have to love those Microsoft products.
