Problem Removing Network Directory Icons Off Desktop

Aug 7, 2007 2:53AM PDT

I cannot seem to be able to "eject" the directory icons off my desktop when I want to disconnect from a shared network directory. I decided I would simply log out, thinking that would probably reset things, but alas, when I logged back in there were now TWO of the exact same icons on my desktop instead of just one. Neither of them will go away. It's like they have had a permanent sticking charm cast on them.

Any help would be great.

(NT) What happens when you put them in the trash?

Nothing...

that's the problem...

I have dragged them to the trash, right-clicked > ejected them, tried to eject them from the finder. No joy.

I finally restarted (ala Windows) and things seem to be back to normal. Towards the end though, all my desktop icons disappeared, only to have half reappear when I drag-selected where they should have been.

Something was definitely wrong, I just don't know what.

run Disk Utility and repair permissions.

I have noticed on a number of machines that clicking on the Go menu, choosing Network, does not always bring up the window with a list of computers on the network that are sharing.

Sometimes repairing permissions helps and sometimes not. Reboot usually works for a while.
It's not a show stopper, just very annoying
