problem on Search engine of Windows Explorer

May 21, 2005 1:16PM PDT

When I click on Search button on windows explorer..it opens one window on left corner as usual. There is no place to input text..just a blank blue screen with one small puppy at bottom. Is there anybody who can help me to this problem?

A puppy??
May 21, 2005 7:03PM PDT

As the other thread doesn't have any replies yet, I will concentrate on this one.

A puppy? What do you mean?

What do you mean, it opens on the left corner as usual? What left corner?

What happens if you goto Start > Search?

Goto Kellys Korner, click "S" and scroll down for help on "Search doesn't work", see if there is anything there to help you.

Kellys-Korner

Wow and thank you.

Search would not show any results on this machine to the point that I was having to go to another computer on the network and search this drive on it to find content.

The fix in Kellys-Korner reinstalling the srchasst.inf file worked!!!

Puppy is Spyware
May 24, 2005 6:17PM PDT

That puppy is the icon for a certain spyware...Buddy something or other...sorry I don't remember the entire name but if you look on your "add/remove programs" on control panel you'll find it there...I had to use AdAware or Spy Sweeper to keep it removed.

Not sure why you choose to be nasty to me.I tried to help you with your problem since I had the same one at one time...or at least it sounded like you had the same puppy showing up that I had at one time. Got rid of mine and as I said...it was spyware.

Different puppy ?

Try Start>Search. You have a yellow puppy with a red collar. Is that the puppy you are talking about ? Just curious.

ya..it's the same
May 26, 2005 12:15PM PDT

it's the same puppy which comes on search in Xp. yellow puppy with a red collar

Oh !
May 26, 2005 1:53PM PDT

Same puppy ? Seems every user less 1 now has a spyware puppy. Must be inbuilt. So M$ is spying on us ? You use XP, don't you ? Say- what do you get if you go to Start>Search ? There is no yellow puppy with a red collar ? If so, how do you make a search of your Hard Disk ? Third party programs ?

Sorry

The yellow puppy with red collar comes on search engine in every Xp... But you said that was the spyware....

Yes, of course I have the other one.
But....did you ever figure out your original problem???

Puppy is Spyware
Jul 7, 2005 11:46PM PDT

I had a programme until a while ago, this featured a puppy, similar to the one you described, the programme Bonzi-Buddy!

I removed it as it was proving to be loaded with spyware and adware. Once it was off the system, I swept the system with Ad-aware, Spybot S & D, and gave it a good going over with an anti-virus scanner, it got rid of it.

by ''Search Engine of Windows Explorer'' ?
Is that the ''Search Companion'' - i.e. start>Run Search ? Yes- there is a yellow puppy with a red band or collar ? And the blue screen is blank ?

Try: Start>Run. Type in ''regsvr32 urlmon.dll'' Hit OK. Then ''regsvr32 jscript.dll'' . Without the quotes.

try this
May 26, 2005 4:21PM PDT

try opening user accounts in control panel and if it is blank as well then download and install windows script 5.6 from microsoft.com
this program is basically going to replace the corrupt script dll files
before installing the utility unregister and register the following file
vbscript.dll
jscript.dll
msxml.dll
msjava.dll

also give a try in safe mode if it opens fine in safe mode then try clean boot

also sfc /purgecache and sfc /scannow is advisable

but windows script 5.6 should take care

It is unclear if you accomplished the steps provided.

I reviewed your posts and from my perspective you don't tell what you've done.
