Problem on connection of a video camera with DVD burner

Sep 9, 2010 1:22AM PDT

I want to directly connect a video camera with an external DVD burner. So I need a USB cable with two Mini-B ends because both of the video camera and burner have mini USB posts. However, most of USB 2.0 A to B mini cable in the market has only one Mini B end but the other end is regular A for connecting a PC. I plan to buy two USB 2.0 A to Mini B cables. The problem is how two USB 2.0 A ends are connected together, Mini B---Regular A connects Regular A----Mini B. Does anyone know it?

For such camcorders I find I can't use any dvd burner. If's it's a Sony I need the Sony DVD recorder. And the right cable comes with that.

Looking for a device to connect two USB A to Mini B cables
Sep 9, 2010 6:07AM PDT

That's why I am looking for a device that can connect two regular USB A. The connection will be Mini B<------Regular USB A to DEVICE to Regular USB A------>Mini B, or someone can help me to find a USB cable with two Mini B (5 pins) ends.

Such a device is called a PC.

Any PC with 2 USB A ports will do, given what you ask. But I think there's something you don't tell.

Still seems a good idea.

The camera doesn't have a burning program, nor does the burner know about getting a file off a camera. So you don't need a cable. You need a device that can (a) get the file off the camera, (b) convert it to the right format, and (c)burn the file.

That's what we use a PC (could be a laptop or a netbook also) or a Mac for. Seems quite simple, given the right software; that's the software that came with the camera to get the file and the software that came with the burner to burn it. And, of course, a format converter program in between. Camera's don't make the file types that the DVD should have to be compatible with a standard DVD-player; a standard DVD-player doesn't recognize the file that comes off the camera directly.

What's wrong with this scheme? A cable just connects, and that's only a very minor part of the whole job.

Please do not answer the question if you do not know.

I am looking for a device that can connect two regular USB A. The connection will be Mini B<------Regular USB A to Regular USB A------>Mini B. Does anyone know how to connect two USB A or help me to find a USB cable with two Mini B (5 pins) ends. I need to directly connect my video camera with a DVD burner. Both of the camera and burner have Mini ports only and my video camera can copy DVD by connecting the burner directly. Please do not answer the question if you do not know.

Such cables are out there.

It appears you have been offended by the answers. That cable is out there but the bottom line is I've yet to see it function. The reason is simple. The camcorders (did you tell us which make and model? I may have missed that) I see that support DVD creation used the DVD recorder from the camcorder maker.

video camera to burner copy without pc is common
Sep 9, 2010 11:30PM PDT

R Proffitt M, it looks only you know such a connection. My video camera does allow the copy from the video camera to burner DIRECTLY without PC. What I need to look for is a USB cable with a USB Mini B (2 ends of 5 pins) to connect the video camera and external burner directly. Such a feature is very common in the current video camera such as Panasonic, Sony etc. Unfortunately, several guys did not know it but though connection of the PC is the only choice to make a copy. Since no one knows such a 2 Mini B ends cable in the market, I will ask the manufacturer for the help because they provide the feature of camera to burner copy without pc.

Can you provide a link to the user manual ...

of this extraordinary (I think) video camera? Or at least tell make or model, so I can read about it myself. It would be very interesting. And what DVD-burner are you using?

The adapter does not provide TWO Mini B
Sep 10, 2010 4:46AM PDT

cnetuser88, the adaptor form the link has only one Mini B but the other end is still a regular USB A that is for connecting to a PC. I need Mini B on two ends of a USB cable so that I can connect the video camera and burner directly without PC to make a copy. You know both of a camera and external DVD burner only have Mini B ports. The Panasonic parts website shows they have two Mini B ends cable to connect the video camera and burner.

Look below.

I supplied the 2 parts to make such a cable. HOWEVER I have yet to find a camcorder that can use anything but their own recorder.

It is a shame you didn't supply the make and model of this amazing camcorder.

You write: "The Panasonic parts website shows they have two Mini B ends cable to connect the video camera and burner."

Congrats, you found it yourself. Now any shop that sells Panasonic can order it for you if you give them the part number. They might even have it on stock. Good job!

Do you know whether a hub will work?
Sep 11, 2010 11:26AM PDT

The USB cable with two Mini connectors is the best because it can connects two devices with only 5 pins port. The other choice may be hubs (one for in and the other for out) and two A to Mini B cables. Those are easily found in a store. But, I have not tested it yet.

Just an idea.

Why not get the one from where you found it?
