the PCI bus is flaking out. Have you checked **all** connectors inside PC to make sure they are properly seated? And that you didn't leave a screw or something metallic on the mobo.
The hub on my home network is an AMD Athlon 2400 with a Gigabyte MOBO. It has two network adapters, on onboard and the other add-on. OS is XP Pro.
Suddenly the other night both network cards disappeared. Since the computer was giving us hassles (booting problems, occasional blue screen/unsolicited restart) we formatted the disk and reinstalled XP. Still, no network adapters. When I try to install new hardware it gives me ?Error code 10 Device cannot start?. I installed the drivers for both adapters, and they seem to recognize the cards.
After formatting and fresh XP installation the system seems stable, and everything else works.
Common sense tells me that it is not a hardware problem because why would both OB and add-on adapters both stop working at the same time? But maybe I am wrong.
Any ideas or suggestions?
