"I have reduced I.E. security level to accept cookies;" is an odd thing. If the OS is Windows 2000 with SP4 plus all the patches, plus IE 6.0 plus all its patches, the default settings are a good idea, then a Disk Cleanup run (include the TIF) and uninstalling any firewall/cookie/popup blocker may unplug the issue.

I don't know of anything specific to try given what's written in your post, but I fix this all the time by the method above. After we fix it, we can add the firewall and such back in to see where it breaks.

Correction in description of my computer components =

Please accept my apology. The laptop computer with the problem is: Windows 98 with dial-up connection.

No firewall. I disabled Norton; Pop-up Stopper;
SpyBlaster; SpyBot.

But I still find that "disable" still finds such things to interfere.

If the 98 Forum can't fix it, consider...

1. Download IE 6.0 from http://browsers.evolt.org/
2. Go get IERADICATOR and expell IE/OE (backup email if you use that...)
3. Install IE from step 1.

Usually cures it.
